What our Clients say:

We just returned again from Algarve and would highly recommend First Car. Staff are friendly, service efficient, pickup and return was a breeze and fast, no silly fuel policy either. Car ran no problem as was very new. Used this outfit for many years and very happy to use again whenever we go to Algarve.

F.A.Q's

Any client wishing to hire our vehicles must be over 23 years of age and have held a full drivers license for at least 1 year. A valid DRIVERS LICENSE, CREDIT CARD (NOT DEBIT CARD) and PASSPORT will be required for presentation to our representative before renting the vehicles in order to validate the rental terms of all our vehicles.
Since 19 January 2013, all driving licences issued by EU countries have the same look and feel. The licences are printed on a piece of plastic that has the size and shape of a credit card. In order to validate the insurance on the rental car it is now a legal requirement that the authority that issued the licence (shown in 4c on the licence - in UK this is DVLA) be clearly marked on the rental agreement in the event of a document check by the GNR police officers. From June 2015, the paper driving licence has been abolished in the UK. The photocard driving licence introduced in 1998 is still valid, but all records of points and penalties will be kept online, rather than on your paper counterpart licence.
Once you have all the necessary rental agreement documents completed, the FirstCar representative will give you the required information for collection and return of the vehicle due to the ongoing building expansion at Faro Airport.
The use of certain areas of the A22 has a TOLL, attracting a cost electronically monitored per kilometre travelled. The Motorway Toll routes where the billing scheme is exclusively electronic are properly marked with a sign with the words "electronic toll only".

Please Note: There is no TAG device fitted in the rental car
On arrival at car hire collection area you will collect the car hire vehicle with an agreed amount of fuel by both parties. At the end of the car hire, return the car hire vehicle with the same amount of fuel or a charge to the difference will be charged.
When using the A.22, the rental vehicles registration number will be picked up automatically when passing the overhead scanners at the various locations. This will determine how many zones you pass through on your journey. Each zone has different prices, but the price per kilometer is approximately 9 cents (e.g. From Vila Real de Santo Antonio to Lagos - € 11.60). If the payment for the use of the A.22 has not been made, the rental car company is obliged by law to provide details of the renter/driver of the hire vehicle to the TOLL collection agency. The official instructions are that the customer will then be billed to his/her home address for payment of TOLLS on the A.22
The customer can go to any post office to pay for the TOLLS after 48 hours and up to 72 hours after using it. Check out the cost of your toll here>> (registration number of the vehicle required)Take with you to the Post office, the rental agreement document to determine the Vehicle Registration Number. Then the Database will be checked to determine the value of the TOLLS incurred. You can use the EN 125 which is free. It's better not use the A22 on last day of holiday because you have no way of paying.

In the event where the customer does not go to one of these Pay-shops or Post Offices to pay the TOLL, the rental car company (FirstCar/Zitauto) will receive notification of the value of the outstanding TOLL that has to be paid for that date on the vehicle. We will then provide the customers details and a copy of the Rental Agreement to the toll company and they will issue an invoice to the renter at his/her home address. WE DO NOT TAKE MONEY FROM CLIENTS TO PAY THEIR TOLL BILLS For the latest toll road information check out: ctt tolls
